Q: What is the purpose of this committee?
A: The purpose of this committee is to allow members of the HOA to help with drafting amendments for the Bylaws and CC&Rs to have it better match the community. Along with making sure the Bylaws and CC&Rs are updated for any upcoming state legislation.
Q: Why do we need a committee, can't the HOA board just make any changes?
A: Sadly, no. While the board can modify the rules & regulations, this document has to be based on the CC&Rs or Bylaws. To change these two documents. We will need a majority vote within all members, which is an expensive and difficult process. So the HOA board wants to make a draft of all the changes and make all the changes at once.
We also would like to make sure any amendments made to these documents reflect the community as a whole, and want everyone to have a chance to give their input to help craft the draft.
Q: Who created the current set of rules?
A: The current set of rules within the CC&Rs and Bylaws were set up by the property deleloper (LGI) of the neighborhood when it was initially created. Most of the time, when the developer sets up these rules, they use a template which matches local and state municipal code.
Sadly, the initial Bylaws and CC&Rs tend to be really strict and don't match with what the current homeowners in the community would like to see for the rules.
Q: Who can join?
A: Any renter or homeowner in the community.
Q: I want to help make changes or learn about how the HOA runs, but don't want the responsibility of a board member. Is this for me?
A: Yes! An HOA committee is a wonderful way to help make the HOA your HOA. The HOA is as strong and should reflect the members of the community.
Joining the committee also allows you to meet other members of the community and work towards a common goal that everyone is passionate about.
Q: Where is it taking place?
A: We will be meeting in the private park of our community in the warmer months. During the colder months, we will meet online.
Q: Can the meeting time and date change if everyone who attends wants to meet at a different time or more frequently?
A: Yes! We can change the meeting time, date, or frequency at any time with a majority vote of the attendees.
Q: I can't make it in person during the warmer months, but still want to participate.
A: You can join our Google Meet virtual meeting, and we will have a laptop during the physical meetings, which allows you to participate.
